The 5 Deadliest Swordsmen of the Fantasy World-Counter Article

Recently, an article came up about the 5 most deadly swordsmen in all of fantasy literature. While it’s impossible to really categorize all the insanely skilled warriors of the fantasy multiverse into a top 5, I felt compelled to write a counter article to the original list, which seemed to be geared more towards the popular, mainstream characters.

You can find the original one here

And now, here’s my take…

The gods of the multiverse have convened for a second gladiator tournament. They summoned their previous champion, Al’Lan Mandragoran, along with a brand new roster of fighters, and placed them in the arena to fight to the death. The winner walks away with his life, as well as an eternal place in Fantasy history.

So here it is, ladies and gentlemen,

Let the games begin….again!

Olek and Decado, resurrected by the gods, tear through the crowds of contenders, leaving an ocean of bodies in their wake. Realizing that they are too deadly together, the gods force them to turn against one another, and Skilgannon the Damned slays Decado, The Ice Killer…or did he let him win…?

4) Elric of Melniboné

Elric approaches Skilgannon the Damned, holding Geralt of Rivia’s head in one hand, and Jaime Lannister’s in the other. The albino Melnibonéan is a surprisingly even match for Skilgannon, but as he swings the Stormbringer down upon his enemy time after time, The White Wolf emerges victorious.

3) Anomander Rake

The 7-foot-tall Son of Darkness blazes through the battlefield, cutting his enemies down with skillful speed and precision. The gods cheer as Anomander approaches Elric’s position, and Dragnipur clashes against Stormbringer. Although Elric manages to hold out a few minutes (which is more than can be said for the last thousand enemies), Anomander brings the albino emperor to his knees.

2) Drizzt Do'Urden

Attack

The battlefield is almost empty now. Drizzt retracts his scimitars Dalinar Kholin’s chest, watching as the man drops to the floor. He looks up, realizing that he is among the last two gladiators standing.

Drizzt watches cautiously as Anomander approaches him. The Champion of Lolth lifts his razor-sharp scimitar and prepares to fight his equal. The battle is a long and bloody one, but when the dust clears, the gods gasp. Drizzt emerges as the victor.

1) Al'Lan Mandragoran-A Wheel of Time

Lan comes down from his pedestal, challenging Drizzt to maintain his title as champion.

The battle went on for hours, then even days.

Never had the gods seen two swordsmen so equally matched.

And then, in an unexpected turn of events, Lan and Drizzt broke out from the gods’ spell and turned against them, working together to break free from the arena and overthrow the gods.

Honestly, every fighter on this list is incredibly deadly, and there are even more not mentioned. But here are my top five, each of which has earned the title of The Greatest Swordsmen of the Fantasy Multiverse.

Thanks to fantasy warriors like these hunting our dragons, DenofDragon always seems to need new pack members.
